KLM marks fleet milestone with delivery of its first Airbus A350-900
Dutch flag carrier KLM, part of the Air France-KLM Group, has welcomed its first Airbus A350-900, marking a significant step in the airline’s long-haul fleet modernization strategy. The arrival of the next-generation widebody reinforces KLM’s commitment to operating a more efficient and passenger-focused fleet. Alongside its existing Airbus fleet of ten A330 Family aircraft and seventeen A321neos, the A350-900 will support the airline’s expanding intercontinental network from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, including routes such as Toronto.
Configured in a three-class layout, KLM’s new A350-900 accommodates 331 passengers, featuring 34 Business Class suites with direct aisle access, 26 Premium Comfort seats, and 271 Economy Class seats. The aircraft is equipped with Airbus’ latest Airspace cabin, offering an enhanced travel experience through improved ergonomics, larger overhead storage bins, sophisticated ambient lighting, and high-speed satellite connectivity. Designed with both passenger comfort and operational efficiency in mind, the A350-900 sets a new benchmark for KLM’s long-haul services.
The Airbus A350 is the world’s most advanced widebody aircraft, capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop while setting new benchmarks in efficiency, passenger comfort and long-haul performance. Incorporating cutting-edge aerodynamics, state-of-the-art technologies and the latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines, the aircraft delivers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption, operating costs and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft. Lightweight composite materials further enhance its environmental and economic performance.
The A350 Family continues to enjoy strong market demand worldwide. By the end of August 2026, Airbus had secured more than 1,620 orders for the programme from 69 customers globally, reinforcing the aircraft’s position as one of the most successful long-haul widebody platforms in service today.
