Airport you don’t want to leave: Changi adds Aviation Industry Award to its list

Even rushing passengers do not mind getting lost, if it is among petal clouds, dancing raindrops, flower gardens... Or, generally speaking − in Singapore Changi Airport. Known as a destination in its own right, Changi is recognized in Aviation Industry Awards 2018 as the No.1 airport in the world, and here is why:

Sleek innovation. In late 2017, Changi opened the Terminal 4, which (potentially) offers a fully automated departure process. Employing tech and innovation to automate every step from check-in to boarding, the airport is really making an effort to make passengers move though terminals as quickly and smoothly as possible. But also, is giving them plenty of reasons not to want rush out just yet.

Traveler’s wonderland. Contrary than at most airports around the world, having a delayed flight might come as a pleasantsurprise at Changi. Extra time here can be spent in a rooftop swimming pool with Jacuzzi visiting water lily, cactus, thematic seasonal plant display or sculptural tree gardens (yes, these are all separate).  Or just admiring an impressive size (9.8 by 4 meters) Kinetic Rain sculpture, and so on − and this is just the Terminal 1. 

New gems to discover.Innovation and renovation never seems to stop at Changi. Having opened its latest Terminal 4 in late 2017, the airport is already well under way to launch its following attraction – Jewel Changi Airport. Scheduled to open doors in 2019, a ten-storey facility is to host a hotel, aviation facilities, retail and dining offerings and various “attractions” – including the only permanent Pokemon Centre outside Japan.

“Airport of the year” nomination – part of Aviation Industry Awards 2018 − was an intense competition between busiest aviation hubs, including Changi Airport, Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, Dubai International, and Munich Airport. Chosen by over 70 000 worldwide voters, who cast their vote in the competition, Changi Airport pulled off a win.

The Awards ceremony was a part of a major aviation event AIR Convention 2018 - one of the biggest gatherings of aviation leaders and influencers, organized in Vilnius, Lithuania.
