VINCI Airports announces the most significant investment plan in Edinburgh Airport’s history: £500 million over five years to support its growth

VINCI Airports has announced a landmark £500 million investment programme for Edinburgh Airport over the next five years, marking the largest investment in the airport's history. The initiative underscores the long-term commitment of VINCI Airports and its co-shareholder Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) to enhancing the airport's efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability.

Since joining the VINCI Airports network in 2024, Edinburgh Airport has continued its strong growth trajectory. In 2025, Scotland's busiest airport welcomed nearly 17 million passengers, reflecting a 7.5% increase in traffic year-on-year.Designed to support future demand and strengthen operational resilience, the ambitious development programme will significantly upgrade the airport's infrastructure, expand capacity, and improve the passenger experience. Key elements of the investment include:

• Construction of new gates to accommodate network expansion and future route growth
• Development of additional aircraft stands to support increased aircraft movements
• Expansion of the check-in hall and departure lounge to improve passenger flow and comfort
• A 60% increase in the terminal's overall footprint
• Enhanced retail, food, and beverage facilities, providing passengers with greater choice and convenience
• New international arrivals facilities, together with upgraded baggage handling, reclaim, and make-up areas

The five-year programme represents the first phase of a broader long-term vision aimed at ensuring Edinburgh Airport can sustainably and efficiently meet growing demand while continuing to play a vital role in Scotland's economy.

The transformation will also strengthen Scotland's international connectivity by facilitating the launch of new air services and supporting existing routes across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and other global markets.

In parallel, the investment programme will advance the airport's environmental objectives through infrastructure modernisation and the integration of low-carbon technologies designed to reduce its overall carbon footprint and support a more sustainable future for aviation.
