Russian Naval Aviation celebrates 100th anniversary
Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Vladimir Korolyov congratulated naval aviation with 100th anniversary, spokesperson of the Russian Navy Captain Igor Dygalo said on Sunday.
"Combat operations of the marine aviation were notable for unwavering resilience and courage, high combat activity and expertise," the Commander-in-Chief said in a congratulating telegram. "Traditions of naval veterans are kept and multiplied by the current generation of marine pilots," he added.
Russia’s Naval Aviation Day is held annually on July 17.
On July 17 1916 Russian aviators won the air fight against Germany. The date is considered the founding day of the Russian Naval Aviation.
The Russian Naval Aviation is the air arm of the Russian Navy. It operates such aircraft as Su-33, MiG-29K, MiG29-KUB fighters some of which are based on the only Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. The Naval Aviation also operates Ka-27 helicoprters, Su-24 bombers. On July 15, 2014, a modernised version of the Ilyushin 38N anti-submarine plane was officially delivered to the Russian Navy.
