A human‑centered AI revolution is definitely coming

So says Cdr. Bud Slabbaert and he may just be the architect of it. AI is, at its core, a behavioral technology according to Slabbaert. Indeed, the smart ones who have already learnt to use AI, are finding out that they can actually guide AI to use it to their needs or demands.

“If we ignore behavioral science, we are not building intelligence. We are building industrial accidents, be it in aviation, tourism or hospitality, to name a few segments. But when we align AI with behavioral insight, when we understand attention, motivation, habit, trust, and identity, we create systems that elevate human capability.”

Cdr. Bud Slabbaert can be credibly linked to behavioral psychology due to his long-standing focus on mindset, motivation, and community behavior relevant to Human-Centered Intelligence. While not a clinical psychologist, Slabbaert, as a strategic communicator and regional intellectual based in the Caribbean, has long applied behavioral principles to analyze leadership dynamics, community responses, and organizational change within small island societies. His contributions as an author/columnist align with the applied, non‑clinical dimensions of behavioral psychology that inform public policy, communication strategy, and human‑centered development.

“In every era, there is a moment when technology outruns wisdom. When systems become louder than the people they were built to serve. When progress forgets its purpose. We are living in that moment now. AI has become the new engine of the world, powerful, dazzling, relentless. But in the rush to build bigger models and faster systems, something essential has been left behind: the human being. That is why a new format must rise. A format that refuses to let humanity become an afterthought. Human-Centered Intelligence combined with AI and behavior science combined.”

Slabbaert’s published commentaries and strategic writings demonstrate a sustained focus on mindset, motivation, perception, trust, and resistance to change—all core constructs within behavioral psychology. His emphasis on understanding how people think, how communities adopt new ideas, and how leaders influence collective behavior reflects a behavioral approach to regional development. This perspective is particularly relevant in the Caribbean, where small populations, high‑context communication, and trust‑based social structures require a nuanced understanding of human behavior.

Furthermore, the leadership of Commander Bud, as he is often affectionally is called, convenes cross‑sector dialogues, especially through the CARIBAVIA Conference, a communication platform for stakeholders of aviation and tourism. In the “Summit and Retreat” as he calls it, he has consistently highlighted the importance of behavioral insight in decision‑making, collaboration, and institutional transformation. His work encourages leaders to recognize cognitive biases, cultural patterns, and social motivators that shape public acceptance of innovation. These themes directly intersect with the behavioral psychology principles that underpin modern human‑centered frameworks.

Because new format Human‑Centered Intelligence is grounded in understanding human behavior, cultural context, and community dynamics, Slabbaert’s long‑standing advocacy for people‑first innovation provides a credible intellectual bridge between his work and the behavioral foundations of this emerging regional model. His contributions offer a practical, experience‑based application of behavioral psychology to air transportation performance as well as Caribbean governance, communication, and development strategy.
