Knowing I am deeply Alsacienne… You could easily ask me what is the point? What Lalique, the emblematic French crystal maker, has to do with Singapore Changi Airport? In fact, the answer is quite simple, impressive, and so beautiful.
Lalique has just completed the creation of two large-format light installations, a dome, and a crystal wall, in the refurbished SilverKris Lounge, at Terminal 3 of Singapore Changi Airport.

An extraordinary luminous dome by Lalique adorns the entrance to the Private Room, where Singapore Airlines First Class and Suite Class customers find a refined private space for rest and relaxation. Lalique brought this order to life in its only factory in the heart of Alsace, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The work is part of an ambitious S$50 million project to redesign, modernize and expand Terminal 3 at Singapore Changi Airport to improve the ground experience for passengers at the airline's main international hub.

The Lalique light dome features 107 crystal flowers inspired by aquatic ginger, one of the 10 endemic floral species that adorn SIA's signature batik pattern; the work is signed by Marc Larminaux, Artistic and Creative Director of Lalique, in close collaboration with Adeline Lunati, Director of the Lalique Interior Design Studio. Designed to give the impression of a “crystal bouquet floating in the sky”, the intricate installation is suspended against the background of a dense foliage of metal sheets, which emphasize the brilliance of the flowers. In each flower is a lamp, which diffuses a light whose color and intensity vary over the hours of the day.
