An Iranian official has said that it is unlikely that Iranian airlines will be buying Russian-made passenger aircraft anymore after a turbulent history.
As they move away from Russian aircraft it is becoming more likely that Iranian companies would seek Airbus and Boeing products, said Maqsoud Samani Assadi, secretary of Iran’s Airlines Association in an interview with Trend News Agency.
Both Airbus and Boeing have a good history in terms of maintenance and staff education that makes them a good option for Iranian civil aviation companies as fleet sizes start to expand.
Assadi said: “We had a growth of over 10 percent in terms of the fleet size. In the emerging situations, also, the companies will provide for their needs according to the contacts and relations they have.”
Under sanctions, Iran began to assemble a passenger aircraft, the Iran-140, which proved highly unsafe after fatal crashes in 2009 and 20014. But the industry is hoping the country will soon be free from sanctions, allowing the aviation fleet to expand.
