Regional carrier Jetgo is expanding its regular public transport (RPT) network to Victoria with nonstop service between Dubbo and Melbourne to begin in late October.
It will be the only nonstop flight from Dubbo to Melbourne, with the new thrice-weekly offering scheduled to run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with 36-seat Embraer ERJ-135 regional jets.
Jetgo managing director for airlines Paul Bredereck says strong support for the airline’s existing Dubbo-Brisbane service has given it the confidence to launch a second destination from the central western NSW city.
“The daylight saving time schedule is set to commence at the end of October 2015 and we are excited about expanding our direct jet services to Brisbane and to be the first regular passenger operator to directly connect Dubbo to Melbourne,” Bredereck said in a statement.
“We have been very impressed with the demand for the Dubbo to Brisbane services.
“We are confident there is similar demand for Dubbo to Melbourne services and this is a logical expansion of our services.”
Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson said there was demand for a direct service to Melbourne.
“I congratulate Jetgo on listening to the community and taking steps to be in a position to deliver this service,” Cr Dickerson said.
Jetgo said bookings for the flights would be available soon.
Regional Express (Rex) serves Dubbo from Cobar, Broken Hill and Sydney, while QantasLink operates between Dubbo and Sydney.
