A Shanghai Airlines (FM) flight from Shanghai to Bangkok was diverted to Nanchang Changbei International Airport (KHN) on Sunday evening after a foreign passenger became ill and passed away upon landing, local media reported.

Flight FM855 took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) at 3:00 p.m., and the crew of flight FM855 declared an emergency en route to Nanchang airport at about 4:40 p.m. after a passenger lost consciousness. The passenger was given medical assistance by staff on board.

Shanghai Airlines confirmed that FM855 from Shanghai to Bangkok was diverted to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, due to a passenger medical emergency. The crew called ahead for medical assistance and the plane was met by medics on landing, but the passenger died.

The Shanghai-based carrier apologized for the inconvenience caused by the delay.

The flight resumed its journey to Bangkok, which took off from Nanchang airport at 8:01 p.m. and arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) at 10:10 p.m., with a four-hour delay, according to VeryZhun, China's leading flight status service provider.
