The reconstruction of the Khatanga airport, north of the Krasnoyarsk territory, may cost 1-1.5 billion rubles ($17-25 million), Krasnoyarsk’s Minister of Transport Sergei Yeremin told a meeting of the regional polar commission on Friday.

"Investments in complete reconstruction of the airport will make 1-1.5 billion rubles," he said. "We are looking for a potential investor."

The minister said the region considered as potential investors oil companies, working in the Arctic zone as well- Rosneft and Lukoil.

In 2016, the local aviation company, KrasAvia, which exploits the airport, attracted 80 million rubles ($1.3 million) for the reconstruction, the minister said. That money was used for the airport’s new equipment, and for reconstruction of accommodation for personnel working in shifts.

Khatanga’s airport is a biggest airport in the Arctic. It serves local routes.
