Brawling Irish UFC Fans Force JetBlue Flight to Return to JFK

Fans flying to a UFC featherweight showdown in Las Vegas were treated to some in-flight fisticuffs when two brawling passengers forced their plane to return to New York.

JetBlue Flight 611 was just 25 minutes into its flight Thursday night when the flying fracas erupted, the MailOnline reported.

Passenger Damien Coyne told the site he was "embarrassed and angry" about the incident - adding that the flight had already been delayed when another passenger interrupted the safety briefing.

"I'm sitting in between a group of Americans on the flight and I heard them stereotyping the Irish when all of the drunken Irish lads got on," Coyne, of Kildare, Ireland, told MailOnline.

"I was angry listening to them talking about us in that way, then these two separate incidents happened and it's these types of situations which do us no favors around the world," he said.

He also recounted the ruckus on Facebook.

"Got very heated and one guy despite everyone on the plane shouting at him to sit down, struck out and threw a few slaps at the other lad," he wrote. "Flight crew go mad, separate the two fellas and now we are on our way back to JFK again!"

He shared a photo with the news site that shows blood splattered on one of the seats.

The sparring passengers were removed from the plane, which then continued its flight, JetBlue told the Independent. No one was arrested and no one sought medical attention, authorities said.

The Airbus A320 -- which departed about 8:00 p.m. Thursday -- had been scheduled to land in Vegas at 10:45 p.m. but finally landed about 2 a.m. Friday, according to online flight-tracking sites.

The fans were on their way to see Dublin's Conor McGregor fight Jose Aldo in a bout to unify the featherweight title Saturday at the MGM Grand.
