China's Ten Busiest Airports in National Day Holiday

During the past week-long National Day holiday, as many as 9 million people traveled through Chinese airports, according to statistics released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Oct. 8.

Passenger numbers reached 8.96 million during the period, up 9.8 percent year on year, the statistics shows. Domestic passengers increased 10 percent to 7.82 million compared with the same period last year, while international passengers increased nearly 30 percent, according to data released by Travel Sky.

To meet increasing travel demand, Chinese carriers offered sufficient capacity for the week-long holiday, adding 5,812 domestic flights and 675 international & regional flights totally. More than 11.4 million seats were offered for passengers to meet their travel demand during the "Golden Week".

During the holiday, Chinese airlines operated a total of 73,000 flights during the holiday, up 17.7 percent year on year. Specifically, international flights registered a 30 percent growth compared with the same period last year, with domestic flights rising 4 percent year on year.

With more flights and lower air fares on international routes, their load factor dropped 2 percentage points, while domestic passenger load factor grew 4 percentage points to 85 percent.

Most were punctual though airports in southern cities including Haikou and Sanya were affected by Typhoon Mujigae and bad weather, said the CAAC.

10 Busiest Airports in the National Day Holiday

According to internal statistics, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) has served 1.78 million passengers during the week-long holiday, retaining its crown as the busiest airport in China.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) has registered a growth of 6.6% in passenger traffic to 1.19 million during the period, to be the 2nd busiest airport.

However, the other Shanghai airport -- Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) -- stood at the 7th place in the list, with 733,000 passengers.

Among the 10 busiest airports, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) reported the fastest growth of 15.44 percent in passenger traffic, followed by Hangzhou with a year-on-year growth of 14.6 percent and Chongqing with 13.2 percent growth.
