Kaluga Airport, located approximately 120 miles (190km) from Moscow, Russia has announced it has handled its first international flight in 20 years.
The milestone was achieved at 1000 on September 4, 2015, when a Dassault Falcon 7х executive jet arrived from Braunschweig, Germany.
On board were representatives of the Volkswagen company who were taking part in an official visit regarding the opening of a car engine factory nearby.
Kaluga was granted international status on August 18, 2015, and the airport says it will begin operating flights to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and other countries: “in the autumn of 2015” and lists Braunschweig, Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Prague, Vienna, Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Dubai, Antalya, Bodrum, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Kiev, Minsk, Yerevan, Dushanbe, Bishkek, Astana, Almaty, Tashkent, as potential destinations.
The Class B designated airport says it is designed to handle aircraft up to the size of the Airbus А319 and Boeing 737-500 and has a theoretical airport capacity of 100 passengers per hour.
