All suitably equipped aircraft and operators can now fly the new Instrument Approach to London Biggin Hill Airport’s Runway 03, as the Civil Aviation Authority authorised trial moves to its full trial phase. The satellite-based approach delivers more predictable and reliable arrivals and strengthens operational resilience at the airport. The procedure enables aircraft to operate in a wider range of weather conditions, providing dependable access for business and private aviation customers flying into London.

Robert Walters, Commercial Director, London Biggin Hill Airport, commented: “The final stage of the Runway 03 approach trial marks another important step in strengthening the airport’s operational capability. Alongside our recent wider airfield investments, the procedure gives operators greater flexibility and confidence when planning flights into London Biggin Hill Airport. Together, these upgrades reinforce our commitment to delivering safe, reliable and efficient operations for our customers.”

The trial forms part of the airport’s ongoing programme of airfield investment, following the completion of major runway resurfacing works, upgraded LED and centreline lighting, enhanced Instrument Runway Visual Range (IRVR) technology and the introduction of a 24-hour AUTO-METAR weather reporting service.

London Biggin Hill Airport is the only dedicated business aviation airport within the capital and is home to more than 70 resident aviation companies. Located 12 miles from central London, it offers award-winning handling, a choice of FBOs, extensive hangarage, support and maintenance services for all ranges of business jets.

A designated UK Port of Entry, London Biggin Hill is free of runway slot constraints. An exclusive six-minute helicopter transfer service to and from the heart of London, the London Heli-shuttle, makes it the fastest transfer of any London airport.

There are very few places in the world, other than London Biggin Hill, where aircraft operators and support companies can conduct all aspects of their business operations, management and maintenance at the heart of a global city and with the confidence in their ability to expand and develop over time.
