Ryanair is expanding its base at Frankfurt am Main Airport and transferring four routes there from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.

From March 25th onwards, the number of aircraft based at Frankfurt-Hahn will be reduced from five to four, said Ryanair on Thursday. During the summer schedule, forty routes will continue to be served from Frankfurt-Hahn in the Hunsrück region.

The four routes to be relocated to Frankfurt am Main are to Porto, Venice Treviso, Valencia and Zadar. A fifth route from Frankfurt-Hahn to Plovdiv in Bulgaria will continue unchanged.

Demand higher for flights from other airports

The decision to reduce the number of aircraft based at Frankfurt-Hahn was due to poor economic performance while at the same time demand for Ryanair flights from other European airports has increased, said Ryanair's Sales Director David O'Brien. Customers affected by the schedule changes would be notified and they can rebook their flights or receive a refund.

A few months previously, Ryanair had already announced that it would fly to new destinations from Frankfurt am Main as of the summer schedule and that it would station more aircraft there in the long term.
