Turkish Airlines has suspended its daily flights to the Somali capital Mogadishu following a failed al-Shabaab attack on the airport on the evening of Sunday, December 13.

Local media report the terrorists attempted a water-borne assault on the airfield but were repelled by African Union forces stationed on the beach front.

Aden Adde International Airport's sole runway 05/23 only operates during the daytime with all flights forced to arrive and depart over the sea owing to the city's poor security situation.

Aside from a variety of small Somali operators, the capital is also served by African Express Airways (XU, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta), Astral Aviation (8V, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta), Fly SAX (B5, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta), Jubba Airways (Kenya) (3J, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta), and National Airways (Ethiopia) (9Y, Addis Ababa).
