Sometimes transcription of meetings and discussions takes time. I think it's mainly due to the enthusiasm of all industry players to be able to meet in "real", after years of virtual communication imposed by the pandemic. It was a real pleasure to find The Registry of Aruba in Geneva during EBACE and to be able to discuss with. We are sharing the essential of our exchange:

Q. What are your impressions of EBACE 2022, the first in the last 3 years?

A. We were thrilled to get back to in-person events after a three-year hiatus, and that enthusiasm definitely showed at EBACE 2022. It was great to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. Virtual conferences are great too, but they don’t have the same energy- but that’s not to say they aren’t valuable!

Q. How The Registry of Aruba spent two years of the pandemic. What was the most challenging, and what was the most interesting?

A. The pandemic caught us off guard, as it did everyone else. We didn’t know what to do next and there was a lot of misinformation circulating about what course of action to take. The most challenging aspect for us was that we hadn’t dealt with something like this before, so we didn’t have a precedent to follow.

There were some silver linings, however. Our team was already accustomed to working together remotely to meet our 24/7 service standard, so the transition to working from home was relatively easy. One of the benefits of being a private entity is that it allows us to quickly adapt to market conditions and allocate our resources accordingly. It also helped us streamline our services and opened the door for us to make a lot of our processes digital, which we benefit from today. More importantly, it showed the resilience we have as a team to be able to quickly pivot and adapt our service to cater to the times. While travel, in general, was impacted, we saw an influx of new clients eager to make the move to private to avoid the risks of COVID.

Right before EBACE we had the pleasure to feature your new, digital sustainability publication, 4Ward – could you tell us a bit more, about how you came up with that idea and what first feedback you got from your partners?

The idea for 4WARD originated out of frustration and a desire to make a difference in the fight against climate change. I believe that indifference is no longer an option—we can no longer afford to not act. Our message is that however small, any step you take to bend the curve of global warming is a step in the right direction. I believe every company should have some sort of sustainable initiative in place.

Our colleagues and peers were overwhelmingly positive in their response to the newsletter. We are so grateful that they enjoyed the newsletter as much as we enjoyed putting it together. We’re always taking submissions and encourage anyone who wants to be featured to send us an email at [email protected].

Q. Can you reveal any future projects you’re working on?

A. Absolutely! Most recently, we’re working on expanding 4WARD into education, which we’re very excited about. We headed to Embry-Riddle Asia where we presented Future 4WARD | Intro to business aviation, a half-day, certificate-based education program focusing on four key areas of the industry: Strategy,Leadership, Brand and Sustainability. We’re also thrilled to be hosting a global community clean-up called CleanEarth 4WARD on September 9th. The intent is to have participants all over the world make an impact in their community.

We’re also continuing our efforts to transition to all digital. Our team and the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba have been busy developing and growing our existing aircraft database that would allow us to complete the full aircraft registration process, eliminating the back and forth that sometimes occurs via email. We’re aiming to transition to all digital certificates in due time.
