Last Wednesday "Riga Passenger Terminal" and "Baltic helicopter” opened the first certified heliport in Riga passenger port.

During the opening event there were presented several  «Bell» helicopters, as an example  A class "Bell 429". "Bell Helicopter» representative Jakub Hoda explained that modern helicopters are used for flights in many cities around the world and now Riga is one of them.

«Baltic helicopter» did not invest in the creation of first certified heliport, as «Riga Passenger terminal» already had it, but it took time and patience for it to be certified according to the European Union (EU) rules told «Baltic helicopter» owner Aldis Pauga.

He also tolds that heliport creation process was long, but now the result is evident. The project managed to realize, thanks to the cooperation with "Riga Passenger terminal» owners. Heliport planned to be used for both rescue measures as well as commercial purposes.

This service could be used by Riga guests who want to see the most of Riga and Latvia in a short time. In addition, the heliport is located next to the cruise ship pier.

«Baltic helicopter» base is located in Jelgava district, and upon request, it could provide the services of at least three helicopters.

As stated by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation Department director Arnis Muiznieks, Latvian has more than ten heliport. Often they are used in military, medical or rescue purposes. The latest one is also suitable for such measures, but it's more oriented on commercial services.
