An aviation Education Forum is planned to be held during the Caribbean Aviation Meetup, June 16-18 on St.Maarten. Representatives of 4 educational institutions in the USA committed to join the CARIBAVIA conference with presentations or workshops. A block of time for a Forum will be set aside for academic and education experts to explore the needs and opportunities for aviation related educational activities in the Caribbean.
Consideration shall be given to:
- forms of cooperation
- periodical educational events
- online and extended degree programs
- creating an organizational structure for joined and sustained educational activities.
CARIBAVIA sees it as feasible to establish an aviation related Research & Development Center in the Caribbean that specializes in dealing with situations and circumstances that are typical for this region, yet, the results could be applied to various locations abroad. It may lead to the development of techniques and products for international companies that are participating in the activities and may acquire the exclusive rights for the commercial exploitation. The financing of the R&D Center may be arranged through industry stakeholders. It’s not uncommon that around such center, a cluster of businesses of interest is developed. A R&D Center and educational activities could be the catalyst for “academic and industry tourism” which is lucrative and sustainable and may also be a contribution to diversify the sources of revenue of a location.
