The Arabian section of the Ninety Nines female pilot organisation have completed their 4th annual meeting which took place in Jordan - an event which saw the group increase its numbers with its first member from Syria. .
Held under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Hamza who as the first Arab female aerobatic pilot and Jordan’s first female glider pilot is herself a member of the group, more than 50 licensed female pilots from 23 countries flew into Jordan.
The group was able to join in five different types of flying; comprising of DA40 single engine aircraft, Sky Arrow ultralight aircraft, gliding, hot air ballooning and accelerated free fall sky diving. In addition the ladies had the opportunity to enjoy the immense natural beauty of the country including scuba diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea, visiting the ancient city of Petra, one of the world's wonders, and visiting Wadi Rum where they enjoyed riding on a 1916 steam train which was part of a staged re-enactment of the great Arab revolution.
The 99s also recruited new members the first female pilot from Syria.
The group has aims to encourage more women into the profession and has secured a 10% discount from Ayla Aviation Academy at Aqaba. Already three future female captains are currently taking their ATPL course at the academy.
The group attracted a high level of sponsorship from the industry including DHL Aviation Middle East ; Royal Jordanian Airlines; Ayla Aviation Academy;
Zain Jordan; The Jordanian Tourism Board; The Jordanian Revival Heritage Company ; Ayla Oasis; Gulf Air; Gulf Aviation Academy; Rum Balloon and the Royal Jordanian Gliding Club.
The Arabian Section of the 99s will be participating at the Bahrain Airshow in January 2016 .
