There are plans for building Russia’s first-ever private cosmodrome in the Nizhni Novgorod Region. A preliminary agreement on the issue was signed by the regional administration and the company CosmoCourse, a source close to the regional authorities told TASS on Wednesday.
"The Nizhni Novgorod Region has signed a preliminary agreement for cooperation in creating a cosmodrome. Several likely sites in the region are being considered," he said.
Now the project is to be coordinated with the Russian space agency Roscosmos and a number of Russian agencies.
TASS has no official confirmation of this.
Earlier, the CEO of CosmoCourse, which conducts research into a spacecraft for private suborbital flights, Pavel Pushkin, told TASS there were plans for building a cosmodrome in central Russia. He said active negotiations on the issue had been held with several regions.
