Since Air China took delivery of its first B747-8I aircraft last year, Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corporation, Beijing (Ameco Beijing) has been improving its maintenance capacity on this type of aircraft.
Currently Ameco Beijing has reached a 5A maintenance rating on Air China's seven B747-8I aircraft. In the next phase, Ameco Beijing will upgrade the airframe overhaul rating to 2C and seek more cooperation services for more types of aircraft and customers.
Maintenance staff training on the type of Boeing 747-8I aircraft has started since May this year. Ameco Beijing will apply for maintenance capacity approval to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in the second half of 2015.
The flag carrier received its first 747-8I in late September, being the first carrier in Asia that operates the passenger version of the new, fuel-efficient 747-8.
Air China's 747-8I features 365 seats in a four-class cabin configuration, including 12 seats in first class, 54 in business class, 66 in premium economy class and 233 in economy class.
