AFI KLM E&M renews its contract with Johannesburg based airline operator, Comair Limited. AFI KLM E&M has been maintaining Comair’s fleet for a number of years and the long-term renewal of the contract covers component repair, the supply of a main base kit, and access to the AFI KLM E&M spares pool.Comair currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 737 Classic and Next-Generation 737s on both its kulula and British Airways (operated by Comair) brands. Comair continues to upgrade its fleet and has already taken delivery of five aircraft from its current order for eight Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft, and the remaining three will be delivered late 2015 and early 2016. Comair has also placed an order for eight Boeing 737 MAX’s, making Comair the first African airline operator to order the new 737 MAX.
A competitive tender, combined with the guarantee of a reliable response to its requirements from an MRO, was all it took to convince the Johannesburg-based airline. Keith Watson, Comair’s Senior Manager Engineering and Fleet says: “Operational excellence is vital and Comair makes intensive use of its aircraft, which are rarely in the hangar. In AFI KLM E&M we have found a trusted partner with its own exacting standards to serve the company’s needs.”
For AFI KLM E&M Senior Vice President Commercial Fabrice Defrance, “It is an honour to see Comair renewing its trust and extending our cooperation. The new contract is also the fruit of our proven efficiency serving airlines in South Africa.” Among other services, AFI KLM E&M has a permanent logistics team positioned in Johannesburg, which is ready to respond in short order to meet the needs of its clients throughout the region in the event of an AOG. AFI KLM E&M and Boeing have recently extended to the 737 MAX fleets their joint and unique 737 Component Services Program (CSP), launched in 2005.
