MTU Maintenance, one of the world’s leading engine maintenance providers, has signed an exclusive 5-year contract with the Mexican low cost carrier VivaAerobus for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the airline’s seven leased V2500-A5-powered aircraft.

The German-based service provider for commercial aero engines has already performed more than 4,000 shop visits for the V2500 engines since it started its MRO services for this propulsion system in 1989. MTU Maintenance will be providing VivaAerobus with its Total Engine Care (TEC®) package which also includes accessory repair, LRU management, MTU’s proprietary early detection system MTUPlus Engine Trend Monitoring, spare engine support as well as customized on-site training. With TEC®, VivaAerobus has found the best solution for its current engine fleet before it starts operating a fleet of A320neos.

VivaAerobus has been sending CFM56-3 engines of its Boeing 737 Classics fleet to MTU Maintenance since 2011. The airline is part-owned by the founders of Europe's largest low-cost carrier Ryanair and the biggest bus company group in Mexico, IAMSA. It operates a fleet of 17 Airbus A320-200s and four Boeing 737-700, in 60 routes in Mexico and one the United States. VivaAerobus has orders for 40 Airbus A320neo, powered by the Geared Turbofan Technology, for which MTU Aero Engines has developed the high-speed low-pressure turbine and the first four stages of the high-pressure compressor. Since the first quarter of 2016, MTU Maintenance Hannover is fully prepared for the disassembly, assembly and testing of the PW1100G-JM.
