Delta has placed orders for 75 CS100 narrowbody aircraft for delivery beginning in the spring of 2018. The state-of-the-art Bombardier C Series will provide added network flexibility with more fuel-efficient mainline aircraft.

Here are 5 things to know about this aircraft type:

  1. It’s a widebody feel in a narrowbody aircraft. The CS100 has an enhanced interior, including some of the widest seats of any narrowbody aircraft, large overhead bins that can accommodate a carry-on bag for each passenger and the largest windows in the single-aisle market.
  2. The aircraft will be deployed on short- to medium-haul routes throughout Delta’s network.
  3. Powered by Pratt & Whitney’s groundbreaking PW1500G engine, the plane will deliver an expected 20 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over similar-sized aircraft.
  4. It’s the quietest in-production commercial jet in its class. The reduced noise and emissions of the C Series jets aligns with Delta’s broader goal to reduce the airline’s carbon footprint.
  5. The Bombardier deal is part of Delta’s broader domestic fleet strategy, which is allowing the company to achieve its long-term financial targets, including 15 percent EPS growth and $4-5 billion in free cash flow annually, while replacing 20 percent of its mainline domestic fleet over the next five years.
