Egyptian air carriers have been allowed to use Russia’s SSJ-100 aircraft, according to a statement of the Interstate Aviation committee (IAC).

The organization reported that the civil aviation authorities of Egypt issued a type certificate for the aircraft RRJ-95B (the name of Sukhoi Super Jet-100 used in technical documentation).

The type certificate confirms the safety of operation of the aircraft, as well as gives the right to its use in the country, the authorities of which issued an appropriate certificate.

"On September 18 civil aviation authorities of Egypt issued the type certificate for the aircraft RRJ-95B-based IAC type certificate. The cooperation of the aviation register of IAC and the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company and Egypt’s air authorities as part of the agreement on airworthiness between the IAC and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that its RRJ-95B aircraft meets modern international requirements for airworthiness and environmental protection," according to the statement.

Deliveries to be discussed

The deliveries of Russian aircraft Sukhoi SuperJet-100 to Egypt will be discussed after the resumption of air links between Russia and Egypt, a source close to the manufacturer SSJ-100, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, told TASS.

Earlier the president of the United Aircraft Corporation Yuri Slusar said that the decision to sell the aircraft should be in line with the resumption of air links between Russia and Egypt.

"The deliveries of aircraft SSJ-100 to Egyptian airlines will be discussed after the resumption of air links with Egypt," he said.

The contract for the supply of the aircraft to Egypt has been negotiated since May 2015. Initially it implies the delivery of 12 aircraft with an option for 12 more aircraft. It envisages a trade-in deal when Russia was to provide SSJ-100 to Egypt in return for Embraer aircraft. First supplies were expected to start in late 2016.

Earlier, the president of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yury Slusar said that the signing of agreements for the supply of MS-21 and SSJ-100 aircraft to Egypt should be coordinated with the resumption of flights from Russia to that country.
