Airbus Group’s award-winning E-Fan aircraft will make its U.S. debut as E-Fan 1.2, revealing experimental hybrid propulsion technology this week at the 2016 EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Airbus Group executives will host two Forum Discussions to share details on the challenges and benefits of hybrid electric/gas propulsion in aviation. With the E-Fan 1.2, Airbus Group is exploring approaches to develop more environmentally-friendly technologies as possible alternatives to fossil fuels in aviation.

When and where:

Airbus E-Fan Static Display:  The latest version of E-Fan, upgraded to a hybrid electric/gas engine developed by Airbus in partnership with Siemens, will be on static display July 24-28 at:

  • Airbus Group Tent, Aviation Gateway Park, Spaces 63 and 64, Aviation Gateway Park, 3000 Poberezny Road, Oshkosh, Wisconsin 54902

Forum Discussions: “Airbus Group E-Fan Hybrid Electric Aircraft and Range Extender Technology,” featuring E-Fan program executives and technical experts

  • Wednesday, July 27, on Forum Stage 7 (Honda Pavilion) at 8:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 28, at Aviation Gateway Park at 10 a.m.

What else:

As part of Airbus Group’s commitment to pioneering the future of energy-efficient aviation, the company developed the E-Fan demonstrator, an aircraft to validate the concept of electric powered flight. The E-Fan demonstrator was the 2014 recipient of the Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency (CAFE) Foundation during EAA AirVenture, which annually recognizes the world’s best personal aircraft designs and engineers.

The E-Fan 1.1, which posts zero carbon emissions, made aviation history in 2015 as the first electric-powered aircraft to fly across the English Channel. .

Today, the E-Fan 1.2, which features a hybrid electric/gas engine and is on display for the first time at the 2016 EAA AirVenture, advances Airbus Group’s commitment to environmentally–friendly aircraft by delivering:

  • greatly reduced  carbon emissions in flight and on the ground
  • significant in-flight noise level reduction
  • hybrid engine is quieter in flight than conventional aircraft engines
  • additional noise reduction benefit thanks to an electric taxiing system
