The groundbreaking event of Liebherr-Aerospace Technology (Shanghai) is a milestone that marks a significant step for Liebherr – one of the world's top three landing gear suppliers with decades of technological leadership and manufacturing expertise – in deepening its local presence and reinforcing its commitment towards its customer COMAC and thus China's domestically developed large passenger aircraft program C919.
The new facility located in the northern section of Phase III of the Large Aircraft Industrial Park, (Lingang New Area of the Pilot Free Trade Zone), covers a gross floor area of about 16,000 square meters. Designed as a single-story steel-structured plant, it features a 30-meter span and a building height of 18.30 meters, providing ample space for the precision manufacturing and assembly of large-scale aircraft components.
The new Shanghai facility represents an important extension of Liebherr's global production network. The plant will focus on establishing local production capabilities for high-strength structural steel components critical to aircraft landing gear systems along with supporting advanced surface treatment processes. This initiative will effectively cut long-distance logistics and transportation costs for the C919 landing gear system and improve service and response efficiency.
Upon completion, the Liebherr plant will create an integrated regional support hub covering precision machining as well as surface treatment, and it will provide on-site support for COMAC’s C919 production. It will catalyze the growth of the aviation manufacturing cluster in Lingang New Area, injecting fresh momentum into Shanghai's high-end equipment manufacturing sector. With the successful groundbreaking ceremony, Liebherr-Aerospace officially embarks on its localized manufacturing journey in Shanghai, upholding the highest standards of aviation craftsmanship.
