magniX announced the opening of pre-orders for its magniAIR electric engine for experimental and kit planes. Customers are now able to secure a place in the magniAIR production queue with a deposit. Final sales packages will include options for an integrated magniAIR powertrain including magniX Samson batteries and a full firewall forward kit for select popular kit planes comprising powertrain and mounts. These are intended to be competitively priced against existing combustion-based solutions. Delivery of the first magniAIR engines is targeted to begin in 2027.
Electric propulsion promises a lower cost of operation than traditional combustion engines due to zero fuel usage and reduced maintenance requirements. magniAIR will bring these benefits to kit plane builders and enthusiasts, breaking down barriers to airplane ownership and popularizing recreational flying.
magniX is integrating magniAIR as part of a full magniX powertrain into a Van’s RV-10 kit plane, scheduled for first flight in early 2027. Later stages in the program will focus on integrating magniAIR into electric trainers and light-sport aircraft under the FAA’s MOSAIC framework, and completing type certification.
Reed Macdonald, CEO of magniX commented: “This is an exciting milestone in the magniAIR program and I look forward to engaging with customers who want to secure a production slot and enjoy the benefits of the electric age of aviation. With a lower cost of operation and reduced maintenance, our dream is to see magniAIR expanding access to kit planes and other small aircraft, sharing our passion for flight with as many people as possible. I have spent many happy hours flying recreational aircraft, so it is really rewarding to bring the magic of electric flight to this market,” said Ben Loxton, VP of New Product Development. “We know the passion and commitment of experimental and kit plane enthusiasts and I think they are going to love the experience of flying electric.”
Final confirmation of queue holders’ production slots will be dependent on a further pre-production deposit. Pre-orders can be made via the company’s website (www.magnix.aero) and in person at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin.
