TARMAC Aerosave inaugurated its 7th maintenance hangar, the 4th at its Teruel site in Spain. Built in the record time of 9 months, its dimensions make it the largest metal-textile hangar in the world. With over 8,000 square meters, it can accommodate one wide-body aircraft (A380) or four narrow-body aircraft simultaneously. TARMAC Aerosave invested 15 million euros in this new infrastructure.

Alexandre Brun, CEO of TARMAC Aerosave commented: " A year after celebrating sits's 10th anniversary, we believe more than ever in the future of this platform and its potential. That's why we're investing in new infrastructure today. This hangar represents our ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of the aviation market, as more and more aircraft take to the skies. We were able to complete the construction of this hangar in a remarkably short space of time, demonstrating once again the synergy and team spirit that reign here."

The world's largest metal-textile hangar

One year after inaugurating its 3rd hangar, this 4th hangar is TARMAC Aerosave's 7th. TARMAC Aerosave's aircraft maintenance offering now comprises four hangars in Teruel, two in Tarbes and one in Toulouse. At 95 meters long, 85 meters wide, and reaching nearly 34 meters in height, this metalo-textile structure is the largest of its kind in the world. Designed to accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, as well as up to four A320s, it covers over 8,000 square meters, with more than 7,700 square meters dedicated solely to aircraft maintenance. Additional space is reserved for offices and facilities for our growing workforce.

Designed by Spantech, specialists in modular aeronautical structures, and built in a record nine months, this hangar is a true engineering achievement. Its innovative design - built with a steel and aluminum frame, and insulated using advanced rock wool panels - makes it fully dismantlable and reusable. The fire-resistant PVC roof adds another layer of safety and durability, while the structure is specially reinforced to withstand the local weather conditions, including heavy winds and snow. High brightness and temperature control provide optimal working conditions.

What sets this hangar apart is its temporary yet highly efficient nature. This flexibility allows us to meet the increased demand for aircraft maintenance. At the same time, the structure is entirely recyclable at the end of its life cycle, demonstrating TARMAC Aerosave’s commitment to sustainability and smart resource management.

A new hangar to relieve production tension

This achievement comes at a crucial time for TARMAC Aerosave. With a backlog of work orders and long-term maintenance contracts, the original hangar, capable of housing two A380s, is fully booked for the next two years. The addition of this new facility will ease the pressure and enable TARMAC Aerosave to continue delivering world-class service, while also creating a lot of new jobs. 50 positions will be open in Teruel. TARMAC Aerosave currently employs over 230 people in Teruel, out of a total workforce of 530, making it the largest employer at Teruel airport. With this new hangar, TARMAC Aerosave not only expands its capacity but also cement its position as a key player in aircraft maintenance, storage, and recycling.

The hangar was inaugurated on October 8, 2024 in the presence of customers - airlines and aircraft lessors - construction contractors, representatives of the Aragon government and Teruel town council, the airport manager and TARMAC Aerosave Teruel employees.
