VoltAero is making a “high-powered” U.S. debut at next week’s EAA AirVenture by exhibiting its new HPU 210 hybrid power unit for the first time on American soil, and opening reservations for production slots of this innovative propulsion system tailored for homebuilt, kit-built and light aircraft. The HPU 210 is a game-changer for general aviation: combining a high-performance 150-kW Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX-derived piston engine with a 60-kW electric motor, this hybrid power unit delivers an unprecedented 40 percent boost in takeoff and climb power – all controlled through a single throttle. The system introduces VoltAero’s patented, flight-proven hybrid-electric technology to a new category of aircraft, delivering enhanced safety, efficiency and performance.
Jean Botti, VoltAero CEO and Chief Technology Officer commented: “EAA AirVenture is the perfect venue to introduce our HPU 210 to the North American market. We’re excited to meet the passionate community of homebuilt and kit-built airplane enthusiasts, as well as light aircraft producers, who are seeking new and efficient propulsion options. And for the first time, we’ll be taking reservations for HPU 210 production slots – right at our booth.”
Visitors to VoltAero’s AirVenture exhibit at Wittman Regional Airport will have the opportunity to get a close-up look at the HPU 210 and speak directly with VoltAero’s technical and commercial teams. A press conference hosted by Jean Botti will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the VoltAero exhibit, providing additional insight into the HPU 210’s capabilities, as well as updates on VoltAero’s Cassio 330 electric-hybrid regional aircraft in its production configuration.
In developing the HPU 210, VoltAero has leveraged its experience from the more than 185 flight hours and 25,000 kilometers logged with the electric-hybrid Cassio S demonstrator airplane.
The HPU 210 offers:
The HPU 210 will be delivered as a complete, turnkey package, including thermal engine, electric motor, gearbox and electronic control unit. Initial customer deliveries are targeted for late 2026 from VoltAero’s production site and headquarters in Rochefort, France.
