Sergey Karutin was appointed General Designer of GLONASS global navigation system, Non-commercial partnership GLONASS President Alexander Gurko told Interfax-AVN.

“Sergey Karutin, employee of TsNIIMASH was appointed General Designer of GLONASS system,” A.Gurko said.

It was reported earlier that an institution of General Designers of weapons and military equipment is being established in Russia.

“We have revived 21 areas, where supervisors of important scientific projects will be appointed. In spring the first five candidates were approved and appointed. Today V.Putin talked to six new candidates. The focus was on development of space systems and further development of GLONASS constellation,” Vice-premier Dmitry Rogozin said following the results of a meeting of Military-Industrial Commission of Russian Federation chaired by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and held on September 19th at Donguzskiy proving ground (Orenburg Region).

According to Rogozin, the General Designers will be included in the Military-Industrial Commission of Russian Federation.
