ACIA Aero Leasing announced the delivery of two ATR 72-600 passenger aircraft in a 70-seat configuration on lease to PNG Air, Papua New Guinea’s leading domestic airline.

Mick Mooney, ACIA’s Chief Executive Officer commented: “We are delighted to partner with PNG Air in expanding its fleet with two additional ATR72-600s. PNG Air plays a critical role in providing regional connectivity and essential domestic services across Papua New Guinea. The ATR’s proven efficiency and economics make it the ideal aircraft for connecting the country’s remote communities. We look forward to a long partnership with PNG Air as it strengthens its domestic network and builds for the future.”

Commenting on the announcement, Brian Fraser, Chief Executive Officer PNG stated: This fleet investment represents a pivotal step in the execution of PNG Air’s three-year strategic plan. The ATR72-600 offers proven efficiency, reliability, and capacity, which are essential as we streamline our fleet, improve operational performance, and position the airline for sustainable growth. Partnering with ACIA enables us to accelerate our transition to a modern, single-type fleet that not only enhances the customer experience but also delivers long-term value for our shareholders and stakeholders across Papua New Guinea.”

For nearly four decades, PNG Air has proudly connected the people of Papua New Guinea with safe, reliable, and affordable air services. Listed on the Port Moresby Stock Exchange since 2008, the airline is majority-owned by Papua New Guinean institutions, including the MRDC Group and NasFund, and supported by approximately 2,900 local shareholders.

PNG Air operates over 22 destinations, providing essential passenger and cargo services. In 2024, the airline carried more than 150,000 passengers, underscoring its pivotal role as the nation’s connector. With the arrival of new ATR 72-600 aircraft, PNG Air is completing its transition to an all-ATR fleet, further strengthening its ability to serve communities across the country.
