Air Inuit selected TrooTrax Mission, SKYTRAC’s flight following software, as part of its Operational Control Center modernization to satisfy evolving regulatory requirements. The deployment enhances operational visibility, supports fleet advancement, and alignment with Global Aeronautical Distress Safety System recommendations established by the International Civil Aviation Organization .
With this adoption, Air Inuit becomes the second Canadian airline to implement TrooTrax Mission into their operation. It will serve as the airline’s primary flight following solution across its fleet of 40 aircraft and helicopters, positioning Air Inuit at the forefront of a growing focus on enhanced tracking and OCC modernization. TrooTrax Mission provides a dual-source tracking approach using both ADS-B position reporting and Iridium tracking, improving visibility and redundancy across Air Inuit’s operations. Through one-minute ADS-B position reporting and configurable Iridium flight following, Air Inuit ensures high-resolution aircraft tracking that aligns with anticipated Canadian GADSS requirements as defined in an industry consultation last year.
Stéphane Rousseau, Vice-President of IT at Air Inuit commented: “Maintaining clear visibility across our operations is essential, particularly in the regions we serve. TrooTrax Mission will enhance how our OCC monitors and manages flights in real-time. The software’s ability to integrate flight plans, support dual-source tracking, and provide timely alerts gives our team greater insight into our operations while remaining cost-effective. This upgrade also positions us to stay ahead of the emerging GADSS requirements in Canada; thus, future proofing our fleet.”
Ruben Stepin, Director of Business Development and GADSS Specialist at SKYTRAC stated: “We at SKYTRAC value our longstanding relationship with Air Inuit and are pleased to support this next phase of their fleet modernization. By implementing TrooTrax Mission in its OCC and deploying ISAT-200A terminals across its fleet, Air Inuit is strengthening its operational capabilities and ensuring its fleet is equipped to meet evolving industry and GADSS requirements. As an operator that plays a vital role in connecting and serving northern and Indigenous communities, we are proud to support Air Inuit’s mission with the implementation of this solution.”
Alongside the addition of TrooTrax, Air Inuit will complete a fleet-wide upgrade to ISAT-200A satellite communication terminals and leverage SKYTRAC’s various Supplemental Type Certificates for streamlined integration into Air Inuit’s mixed fleet. The upgrade standardizes avionics, simplifies operations and maintenance, and supports long-term reliability across Air Inuit’s DHC6, DHC3, DHC8, Boeing 737, King Air B300 aircraft as well as its AStar 350 and Bell 407 helicopters. The ISAT-200A system also enables out, off, on, and in event reporting and alerts for onboard terminal deactivation or failure.
By implementing TrooTrax Mission across its operation, Air Inuit gains a range of tools designed to support proactive flight monitoring. These include flight plan ingestion and integration with TrooTrax, allowing aircraft to be tracked against planned routes in real-time with adjustable tracking intervals and automated alerts for overdue aircraft, route deviations, and other abnormal events. The introduction of these operational tools will support faster and more informed decision-making within Air Inuit’s OCC.
