Thai AirAsia X on Tuesday said a Tokyo-bound flight returned to Don Mueang airport less than hour after takeoff when the airline discovered an "irregularity in the passenger cabin".

The airline did not go into details of the "irregularity" in its statement.

Flight XJ606, an Airbus A330-300 carrying 330 passengers and 13 crew members, left Don Mueang airport at 10:40 a.m. and its pilot decided to divert and land at the airport at 11:25 a.m. for safety reasons and a technical examination.

All passengers were transferred to another aircraft, which left Don Mueang airport at 12:45 p.m. and is due to arrive at the Narita international Airport, east of Tokyo, at 8:45 p.m., two hours later than scheduled.
