airBaltic announced the launch of the 2024 summer season with a flight from Riga to Tirana and a dedicated special event at RIX Riga Airport, introducing six new destinations and connecting Riga with more than 70 routes within the carrier’s network. In total, airBaltic will offer 15 new routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere for the upcoming summer season. These will also include routes such as Palanga–Amsterdam and Copenhagen–Oslo (Sandefjord, Torp).

Thomas Ramdahl, Senior Vice President Network Management of airBaltic, commented: “As we launch the 2024 summer season, airBaltic is excited to introduce 15 new routes from our hubs in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, enhancing our network into Central and Southeastern Europe with key destinations such as Chisinau, Ljubljana, Pristina, Skopje, and Tirana. This expansion not only reflects our commitment to growing our service and improving connectivity but also underlines our position as the leading airline in the Baltics. By continuously evaluating passenger demand and market dynamics, we ensure that our offerings meet the evolving needs of travelers, providing them with greater flexibility and convenience for both leisure and business travel. With these new routes, we anticipate a bustling summer filled with opportunities for our passengers to explore new cultures and experiences.”

Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of RIX Riga Airport said: “The national airline airBaltic is the most important carrier at RIX Riga Airport, and we are pleased with the constant development of airBaltic at Riga Airport. The news of this summer flight season will be a great addition to the connectivity of Riga and the Baltics with business and leisure destinations across Europe. It is gratifying to see that airBaltic is especially strengthening connections towards the Balkans this year. We also see this as a good opportunity for growth, especially in the area of transit passengers. Moreover, the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area eases the travel rules both for travellers from the Baltics to these countries popular among summer holiday travellers, as well as for Romanian and Bulgarian tourists who want to visit the Baltics.”

Tirana, the capital of Albania, seamlessly merges its historical heritage with a dynamic contemporary vibe, establishing it as a fascinating European destination. Located in the heart of the country, it is surrounded by lush mountains and scenic landscapes. Tirana is rich in cultural attractions, including museums, art galleries, and theaters, complemented by trendy cafes and authentic Albanian restaurants. Known for its colorful buildings and progressive urban planning, Tirana provides a unique and warm welcome to visitors from around the globe, offering an unforgettable experience. Flights between Riga and Tirana are scheduled to take 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Same day also marked the inaugural airBaltic flight on the Riga-Sofia route, with a duration of 2 hours and 35 minutes. Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, elegantly combines its ancient heritage with a lively modern lifestyle, making it an intriguing European destination. Situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, the city boasts a blend of historic landmarks and bustling city life. The city is a cultural epicenter, featuring numerous museums, galleries, and theaters, alongside a variety of cafes and traditional Bulgarian eateries. Known for its green spaces and commitment to cultural preservation, Sofia offers a unique and inviting experience to visitors from all over the world.
