In September 2015, airberlin transported a total of 3,160,104 passengers. In light of an extensive capacity reduction by 7.2 percent, the number of passengers decreased by 6.4 percent as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. Analogously, the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) traveled within airberlin’s global flight route network decreased by 7.2 percent to 4.631 billion kilometers. The available seat kilometers (ASK) were reduced by 6.8 percent to 5.349 billion kilometers.
At 86.6 percent, the overall capacity utilization rate (RPK/ASK) remained approximately at the level of the previous year (-0.4%). For the first three quarters of 2015, the capacity utilization rate increased by 0.6 percentage points in yearly comparison, reaching a total of 84.8 percent. For the third quarter, airberlin recorded an average increase of the capacity utilization by 1.1 percent in yearly comparison. The accumulated number of passengers for the year decreased by 4.3 percent to 23,769,569 passengers in comparison with the previous year.
