Etihad Airways has signed an interline agreement with Nigerian airline Ibom Air, enabling travellers to connect seamlessly beyond Lagos and Accra to five destinations across Nigeria on a single ticket. The partnership will take effect when Etihad launches its own services to both cities in March 2027. Under the agreement, passengers arriving on Etihad flights in Lagos or Accra will be able to continue their journeys with Ibom Air to Abuja, Uyo, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Enugu. Additional connections will be available between Accra and Abuja, as well as Accra and Uyo. The interline arrangement allows customers to book their entire itinerary under a single reservation, with baggage checked through to their final destination.
The addition of Uyo and Calabar further expands Etihad's reach across Nigeria, complementing existing access to Abuja, Port Harcourt and Enugu. The enhanced network provides greater convenience for travellers visiting family and friends, conducting business, or exploring destinations across the country.
Etihad will begin its nonstop operations to West Africa in March 2027, with daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Lagos launching on 23 March, followed by four weekly services to Accra from 24 March.
Arik De, Etihad Airways Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, commented: “Our ambitions in Africa are long-term, and Nigeria sits at the centre of them. Ibom Air has built a strong domestic network from its base in Uyo, and partnerships with airlines that know their own markets are how we grow on the continent. Having this in place before our Accra and Lagos flights begin next March means we arrive in the region already connected to the cities beyond them.”
George Uriesi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, stated: “This agreement marks a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a truly world-class African regional airline. It enables international travellers to access the cities we serve through a single booking, enhancing connectivity and convenience. Additionally, it positions Ibom Air as the key domestic and regional connection for Etihad Airways’ operations into Nigeria and Ghana from next year. We look forward to welcoming Etihad’s guests onboard and showcasing the excellent service that defines the Ibom Air experience.”
