Travelers who buy flight delay insurance through Wechat's shake function could get a compensation of up to 1,000 yuan once their flight is delayed by just one second.

The latest flight insurance was launched jointly by China's leading flight service provider VeryZhun, Wechat, Zongan Insurance and Air Union Insurance Brokers Co., Ltd. at a press conference in Shanghai on Wednesday, which is the first flight insurance product available to buy at the airports.

Currently, passengers are able to buy the flight delay insurance at the airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. After buying the insurance, passengers will receive the real-time flight information provided by VeryZhun through their Wechat.

Travelers can buy the insurance at the boarding gates or any places with the insurance ads in the terminal. When the delay occurs, the compensation will go directly into the insurant's Wechat wallet.

Usually, travelers need to buy traditional flight delay insurance products at least one day prior to the departure of their flight, or 2 hours in advance as quickly as possible. The new flight delay insurance allows passengers to buy 4 hours before the scheduled time of departure until 2 hours after the delay occurs.

The insurance policy is based on VeryZhun's estimated time of departure.
