Hong Kong, 28 August 2015 HK Express has become the only low-cost carrier to join the prestigious Slot Policy Working Group (SPWG) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This group of 17 airlines represents the global air industry in setting policy in the vital area of managing airport slot distribution.
According to IATA, its Director General appoints the working group from those who have demonstrated the experience and skills necessary to represent the industry and make a contribution to the issues being addressed. The HK Express appointment to the working group becomes effective 1 September 2015 for a two year term.
Through the allocation of slots, limited airport resources are controlled with the goal of benefitting the greatest number of airport users and travellers. The prime directive of the SPWG is to ensure the policies that guide slot allocation are fair, sound, and defensible.
Andrew Cowen, HK Express CEO, said “It is a great honour for HK Express to be selected for this globally important role within IATA’s SPWG. Slot shortages at airports, in our opinion, are one of the major impediments to the spread of low fares across Asia and indeed the World. We hope to contribute to finding creative ways to maximising airport slot capacity, enabling many more people to travel. ”
