As many as 17 incidents of tyre burst have been reported by different domestic airlines between 2012 and October 30 this year, with seven of them reported by Air India and its subsidiary Alliance Air, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma informed Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The number of tyre burst incidents in 2012 stood at three, while four such incidents were reported in 2013, he said.

According to Mr. Sharma, a total of seven tyre burst incidents were reported by various airlines in 2014 while this year till October 30, the number of such incidents stood at three.

Of the 17 incidents, Air India along with its subsidiary Alliance Air reported a total of seven.

During this period, SpiceJet reported five such incidents during the period between 2012 and October 30, 2015, he said.

Jet Airways also reported four such incidents from different airports in more than three-and-a-half years while IndiGo had reported one incident of tyre burst during this period.

Tyre burst incidents involving consequential damage to these aircraft have been investigated by Permanent Investigation Board of the airline under supervision of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Minister said.
