Porter Airlines has arrived in the Sunshine State of Florida, marking the first day of seasonal weekly service that continues until April 30, 2016. Passengers on the sold out flight enjoyed non-stop service from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Orlando-Melbourne International Airport.

“Orlando-Melbourne is now our most southern destination. This route provides a convenient connection between downtown Toronto and a part of Florida that lacked international air service until now,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines.

Porter is known for providing a premium passenger experience, including leather seats, complimentary wine and beer onboard, and airport lounge access. Its ‘flying refined’ approach has helped make Porter the Best Regional Airline in North America two years running at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, and one of the world’s Top 20 International Airlines rated by Condé Nast Traveler.

“Orlando-Melbourne International Airport is proud and honoured to serve as Porter Airlines’ entry into the Florida market. We are the beachside airport for all that Florida has to offer. MLB is closest to beaches, closest to cruises, closest to fun. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase our airport’s convenience, coastal personality, and our customs facility. This is just the beginning,” said Greg Donovan, AAE, executive director, Orlando-Melbourne International Airport (MLB).

Orlando-Melbourne is located along Florida’s Atlantic coastline, known as the Space Coast for its proximity to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The world-class facilities of nearby Port Canaveral offer more leisure activities than any other Florida deep water port for those beginning or ending cruises. The city provides the best of art, culture, dining and shopping with the scenic backdrop of 116 kilometers of warm, sunny beaches and sub-tropical climate. There is no need to wait until summer to go golfing, fishing, swimming or camping; these activities can be enjoyed year-round in Orlando-Melbourne.

Porter Escapes offers a range of packages in the Orlando-Melbourne area, including flights, hotels and attractions. Enjoy the convenience of purchasing passes to Legoland, the Orlando Eye and Wild Florida, all in one place. Seven-day packages start at $1,150 per person for a seven-night stay at the Hilton Cocoa Beach departing January 23; based on double occupancy. “The secret is out. Canadians have long appreciated our sparkling beaches, breathtaking sunrises over the Atlantic, warm tropical breezes, and casual lifestyle. Thanks to Porter Airlines, they can now fly nonstop to our beaches, attractions, water sports, space port launches, fishing and more. Our hospitality industry is ready and eager to serve this growing number of Canadian visitors,” said Eric Garvey, executive director, Space Coast Office of Tourism.

Travellers flying with Porter depart from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, located in the heart of downtown Toronto. The convenient location now includes access to the pedestrian tunnel that connects the airport with the mainland in approximately six minutes. The route also serves as a new alternative to get home for many Canadians living in the Orlando-Melbourne area.
