Qantas has announced that construction of a new multi-million dollar premium lounge at Brisbane Airport’s international terminal will begin within weeks.

The new lounge will combine Qantas’s international first and business class lounges to create one large premium lounge.

To facilitate the works, Qantas’s existing lounge facilities will close on June 29, with affected international customers being offered access to the nearby Plaza Premium Lounge. From Brisbane Qantas operates direct international services to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

The new lounge will have 25 per cent greater floor space than the existing lounges and is expected to open in October. It will include an all-day barista bar as well as a premium meals and a seasonal menu created by Neil Perry.

While the Brisbane lounge will be inspired by Qantas’s award-winning Hong Kong and Singapore lounges, its design will reflect the natural beauty found in Queensland, the airline said.

This is similar to the overall philosophy adopted throughout Brisbane Airport, which sees native Queensland woods, plants and colours selected to allow travellers to feel connected with Queensland while inside the terminal.

Domestically, Qantas is refurbishing its Business Lounge and The Qantas Club at Brisbane with a staggered opening to commence early next year.
