Qatar Airways teams up with English actress Joanna Lumley to send aid from the United Kingdom to earthquake victims in Nepal.

Qatar will work with Lumley in transporting 5.3 tonnes of aid to Nepal, free of charge.

The aid was collected by several Gurkha charities in the United Kingdom that Lumley supports, but they had no way of delivering the aid to Nepal until Qatar donated their services.

Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo, Ulrich Ogiermann said: “We were delighted when Mrs Lumley made contact with us to ask for assistance with the transportation of aid collected by the Gurkha charities she supports in the UK to Kathmandu. At Qatar Airways Cargo we are always looking for ways to give back to the international community and we take our corporate responsibility very seriously.”

Qatar was the first commercial carrier to reach Kathmandu just after the earthquake in April, and has since sent 22 humanitarian freighters to the disaster zone.
