Ukraine’s state aviation service informed Russian carriers on imposing a ban on flights to and from Ukraine since October 25th 2015, press-service of Rosaviatsiya reports.

«In accordance with the instruction of Russian Ministry of Transport and agreement on air traffic between Russia and Ukraine, the Federal Air Transport Agency informed Ukrainian carriers, which are performing or going to perform flights to Russia, about imposing ban on flights to or from Russian Federation on October 25th 2015; the ban will remain in effect until Ukrainian authorities cancel their decision to impose ban on flights performed by Russian carriers,» the agency noted.

Unfortunately, premature decision made by Kiev will, first of all, hurt citizens of Ukraine. According to Russian carriers, 70% of passenger traffic between the countries is accounted for citizens of Ukraine, the agency added.

Air traffic between Russia and Ukraine includes several routes: flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Surgut to Kiev, Odessa and Lvov are performed by 5 Russian carriers (Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, Transaero, Sibir, UTair Aviation and Rossiya).

As for Ukrainian party, Dnepravia, Motor Sich and Ukrainian International Airlines perform flights from Kiev, Odessa, Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.

Passenger traffic between the countries for 8 months of 2015 was about 800 thousand passengers.
