With a decrease of 11.9 % compared to October 2016, passenger numbers at Berlin Tegel have fallen significantly. Despite slight growth at Schönefeld (+ 3.3 %), the total number of passengers at both Berlin airports has fallen by 6.2 % compared to the same month of the previous year. As a result, the airberlin crisis has had a visible impact on the Berlin airports during the last operational month of the airline. Since the beginning of the year however, passenger numbers have continued to increase, rising by 4.4 % overall. 
In the current traffic report you will find the figures for passengers, flights and airfreight for the month of October 2017, as well as cumulatively since the beginning of the year, in each case in comparison to the same period of the previous year.

Traffic figures January to October 2017

  • Passengers: From January to October, 28,902,991 passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel; an increase of 4.4 % in comparison to the same period of the previous year. 10,936,190 passengers took off and landed from Schönefeld, 13.2 % more than in the same period in 2016. 17,966,801 passengers flew from Tegel, 0.3 % less than in the same period of the previous year.
  • Flights: Between January and October 2016, the number of flights from Schönefeld and Tegel increased to 239,776 take-offs and landings, an increase of 1.3 % compared to the same period of the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flights increased to 85,887, an increase of 7.1 %. At Tegel, there were 153,889 take-offs and landings, which is 1.7 % less than in the same period of the previous year.
  • Air cargo: In total, 43,260 tonnes of air cargo was recorded from January to October, an increase of 13 % from the same period of last year. At Schönefeld, 7,563 tons of air cargo were handled up to and including in October (+ 2.7 %), and at Tegel 35,696 tons (+ 15.4 %).

Passenger figures October 2017

  • Passengers: In October 2017, 2,948,937 passengers took off and landed at Schönefeld and Tegel airports, a fall of 6.2 % compared to the same month last year. 1,209,714 passengers flew from Schönefeld in October (+ 3.3 %), while at Tegel there was a total of 1,739,223, 11.9 % fewer passengers due to the insolvency of airberlin.
  • Flights: In October 2017, the number of flights at Schönefeld and Tegel airports dropped to 24,195 take-offs and landings, down 5.4 % from October 2016. At Schönefeld, the number of flights dropped to 9,037 (- 1.7 %). At Tegel, the number of flights in October dropped to 15,158 (- 7.5 %).
  • Air cargo: 3,311 tons of air cargo was recorded at Schönefeld and Tegel airports in October 2017, down 27.4 % from October 2016. Air cargo at Schönefeld reached 864 tons, 9.3 % more than in October 2016, while at Tegel 2,446 tons were recorded (- 35.1 %).
