Up to 50 people with disabilities will get the chance to soar the skies of South Yorkshire thanks to a partnership between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Aerobility - a charity making aviation more accessible. Later this month, Aerobility will operate two adapted light aircraft over four days from Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The charity, which transforms lives by enabling people with disabilities to experience the magic of flight, will be offering people the chance to go up in the aircraft for short flights around the skies of South Yorkshire.

Between 26-29 May, disabled people will be able to apply for introductory flights in the charity’s specially adapted light aircraft as part of a joint ambition for both the airport and Aerobility, to empower disabled individuals to challenges their limits, conquer fears and learn more about aviation. For over 30 years, the charity has provided accessible aviation activities to disabled people with physical impairments, sensory impairments, learning disabilities, neuro diversity and mental health challenges. Aerobility encourages all participants to ask themselves, “If I can fly an aeroplane what else can I do?”

Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster, commented: “This is such a special and important opportunity to bring back adapted flights to Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Working with Aerobility, it’s fantastic to give anybody with a disability - who may have an interest in aviation or just want to see their local area from a new perspective - a chance to experience the wonder of flying. We’re proud to again be able to offer this opportunity from Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The light aircraft will be based here for several days to ensure people have plenty of opportunity to get involved. We’re committed to making sure that our airport is inclusive to all and we look forward to working with Aerobility now and in the future to make sure the aviation industry is accessible both for travel and career opportunities.”

The Chief Executive of Aerobility, Mike Miller-Smith stated: “We’re thrilled to be flying from Doncaster Sheffield Airport. It’s so crucial to be able to offer opportunities for people with disabilities such as this right across the country. We’re also extremely grateful to The Mark Long Trust, for actively supporting and enabling us to offer these life changing experiences to the local disabled community.”

Please note: Aerobility works hard to provide safe accessible flying experiences for all. Weight, body shape and size limits do apply due to the nature of a light aircraft. Certain medical conditions mean that flying may not be possible for safety reasons. In these instances, the Aerobility accessible simulator will be a fun alternative activity accessible to all. If hoisting is required, the maximum weight limit is 100 kg.  Anybody wishing to apply for an introductory flight experience between the 26th and 29th of May can visit this link to complete an application form:  www.aerobility.com/doncaster-2026
