Moscow authorities have agreed on a development project of the Northern area of Sheremetyevo International airport, which will turn the airport into one of the most powerful passenger and cargo hubs in the world. By 2018 the site of the old airport terminal will build a modern terminal B with convenient facilities. There will be a multi-level Parking, underground baggage and passenger tunnels connecting Northern and southern sectors of Sheremetyevo. In the future, to the new terminal it is planned to bring the railway station “Aeroexpress”.
Town-planning Council of Moscow region agreed on three the project planning area for the development of the North terminal complex (STK) to Sheremetyevo International airport. “These projects involve the construction of a new terminal B, other STK objects that are not related to Federal property, as well as the construction of new railway lines and terminal “Aeroexpress”, – said the Deputy Chairman of the Government Moscow region Herman Elyanyushkin.

To connect the North and South complexes, under an airfield the airport plans to build terminal-to-terminal transition from the two tunnels. Their construction will unfold in the territory under the existing runway stripes. The project is expected to extend the passenger and baggage tunnels. The diameter and length of each will be of 6.28 m and 2.1 km, respectively, and with a throughput capacity of 11 million people and 5.9 million pieces of Luggage a year. For passenger traffic in the tunnel will be used automatically high-speed transport system of the company Doppelmayr.
