Sochi International Airport has handled seven flights of equipment and racing cars for the Formula One Russian Grand Prix, which will take place between 9 and 11 October.

The first two flights, operated by AirBridgeCargo Airlines landed on 29 September carrying television equipment and racing cars. This was followed by four more AirBridgeCargo and Nippon Cargo Airlines aircrafts on 30 September and 1 October. Another aircraft, operated by Qatar Airways Cargo flew from Milan and landed on 7 October with 25 tonnes of racing equipment.

Sochi International Airport operator, Basel Aero chief executive officer, Leonid Sergeyev says: “We’re again facing a challenging task to serve guest and participants of the Formula One Russian Grand Prix at the highest level … Thanks to the airport’s Olympic experience, we’ve got all the operations running smoothly here.”

The Olympic Park in Sochi hosted the first Russian Grand Prix in 2014, which was won by Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes. He beat his teammate, Nico Rosberg by 13 seconds, while Williams driver, Valtteri Bottas came third. The Olympic Park was constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics and will be hosting the FIFA football World Cup in 2018.
