Tigerair has marked a new milestone today as the only carrier to operate direct flights between Singapore and the coastal city of Quanzhou in China’s Fujian province. The airline made its inaugural flight to Quanzhou today, and will ply the two cities every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Lee Lik Hsin, Tigerair’s CEO, said, “Tigerair is constantly looking for opportunities to provide travellers with greater choice and connectivity. Operating direct flights to Quanzhou is one such example of how we establish or improve air links between Singapore and other cities. We are delighted to be strengthening our network in China, where we see tremendous opportunities.”
China is one of Tigerair’s biggest markets by traffic contribution with Quanzhou being the carrier’s 12th destination to Greater China. With the addition of Quanzhou to its network, the airline will operate a total of 79 flights to China weekly.
Quanzhou is a major manufacturing hub for textile, apparel and petrochemicals. Due to its strategic location at the start of Maritime Silk Road, Quanzhou is expected to see growth under China’s One Belt One Road initiative. In addition, Quanzhou will appeal to Fujian Chinese from other parts of Asia looking to rediscover their ancestral heritage. It is also located within a short 1.5-hour drive from Xiamen, the key commercial centre of Fujian Province, and a 2.5-hour drive from Fuzhou, the provincial capital of Fujian. As a tourist destination, Quanzhou boasts of scenic natural surroundings as well as rich history and culture.
Promotional fares to Quanzhou start from $329 per round trip.
